The Leisk Intermediate Court has sentenced to death the VLF-linked assailant responsible for the Nov. 18 stabbing attack that killed two people in Great Ritan.

The court ruled that the attack constituted an act of terrorism, citing the assailant's confirmed affiliation with the VLF and the deliberate targeting of civilians. The defendant was not offered a chance to issue a public statement.

The attack, which occurred at a synagogue in Jeju, drew national outrage and led to tightened security measures across Leisk Province.

No appeal has yet been announced. The Ministry of Justice says the sentence will be carried out in accordance with national law.
